The scream (1893-1910), by Edvard Munch (1863-1944) |
Okay, now we can resume our post!
Hello to you dear reader! Good evening to you as well! Happy Monday!! How are you today, how are things going so far today and in this month of September? As usual, I wish you the best! As for me, I have to say, for some reason I woke up with the wrong foot today, this wasn't the best day of my life, my mind was one of the major reasons for it, it wasn't in the right place, but anyway, it wasn't all bad, quite the opposite! In fact no major bad thing happened, it's just me who's not in a good mood and some incidents can be taken badly by me, this happens sometimes right? Tomorrow will be better, and I'll try to mostly remind of the good things that happened today! Like, for example, I watered my plants! I love them so much, I hope they can keep on growing happy and healthy and wise!
Okay, enough of small talk, let us go to the post!!!
So, recently I finished on reading my whole book of Alice, by Lewis Carroll! I finished Alice in Wonderland in the road to September, and now I finished the less known, bigger and more complicated continuation of this major piece of literature: Alice Through the Looking Glass! And What She Found There!!

Alice passing through the mirror, by John Tenniel. Oh curious Alice... |
In contrast to the first Alice, this one I only read once, back in 2014 when I first got the book. It didn't catch me, not at all, took me weeks to read it, and when I finished it I forgot about it mostly. It's not that I disliked it, quite the opposite, I really enjoyed it, it's just, it wasn't that great! Or at least so I thought then.
Now, I read the book again, and my impression of it is far more positive! Okay, okay, it's not nearly as good as Alice in Wonderland (MY OPINION), but still a very enjoyable read! The story manages to be even more bizarre than the previous one (THANK GOODNESS FOR THAT, LOVE ME SOME NONESENSICAL LITERATURE)! This time, after playing with kittens, Alice passes through a looking mirror and enters into a very different world, filled with chess pieces, odd characters, books written in backwards, and really strange poems! This time, however, she has a more smooth adventure, in comparison to the struggles of the Wonderland. She finds a Red Queen, obsessed with etiquette, that can be inconvenient sometimes, but she just wants the best for Alice. She finds an even more complicated queen, the White one, but she's not asking for Alice's head, far from that! She finds Humpty Dumpty, who's hard on her in the beginning, but soon became a friend to her, and all of them are quite helpful with Alice mission in the story! In this backward land, she finds herself into a chess match. As soon as she finds out, she expresses her wish to become a queen as well, and so the adventure goes!

The red queen trying to teach Alice some etiquette! By John Tenniel |
I won't say the book is catchy, of course, it can be too much for some people, and I won't blame them, far from that. But I have to say I loved it, not nearly as much as Alice in Wonderland, but still quite inspirational and likable, I, for one, would love to visit this enchanted world of the looking glass if I had the chance!
There's an extra surprise though, many elements of the 1959 movie Alice in Wonderland are only present in this book! The talking flowers, Tweedledee and Tweedledum, UNBIRTHDAYS! As for the 2010 movie, well, the red queen and the white queen are there, though completely far from their characters in the book, and we finally see where the Gloriandei and the creatures Alice fight in the movie come from, there're many references of the second book in this movie, even more than in the 1959 version, but that's about it. And concerning the 2016 continuation, there's absolutely nothing of the books on the continuation, not at all, that whole movie can be safely escaped if you want to. TO BE FAIR I LIKE THIS ONE mildly, but I wouldn't recommend it too vividly to anyone. I'd totally understand if you love the movie though, and if you do you can completley diss me on the comment session and explain to me why I'm wrong and why I should die for not being mad for the movie, I'd gladly listen to your opinion!
