In Which I yearn for Connection and Fulfillment
Good morning, dear reader of this post, and my friend! Happy Friday! How has the week been for you? I am okay, overall... just happy I finally did what I was really desiring to do but for so long, in this season, felt unable to: play Anno 1800. Specially after the doors of modding were opened for me, I felt overwhelmed by the scope of such entry, and coukd never concentrate for more than 20 minutes. Today, I built in my island of Danieria Trevere for almost an hour, and I do feel accomplished! It can be hard on getting into a full-on sandbox game, but when you can enter on the rhythim of building, developing, pruning, it is really rewarding, fulfulling. I also did play Victoria 3, as I have been trying the mods of that game for months, now, specially Morgenroete: Dawn of Flavor. Some days ago, with the help of AI assistants, I could tune in the mods I have on a better way, and as such, I finally managed to make the game run relatively well, even with the big new unnoficial content I have installed. More mods for Sims 3 and Civ 5 as well, that I have not fully explored yet. Too many games, not enough time, at all. Just happy I can have, for one moment, a fleeting one, fulfillment from my favorite pastime. And happy I could have time for it, praise heavens.
I cannot have enough of Rococo! This is a beautiful painting by Nicolas Lancret, a master of this genre.
There has been some things in my mind over the past days, but as usual, I can't quute put them into writing, nor can I do it on a smooth transitioned way from one topic to the next. There has been the election of a new pope, I suppose I should mention, for the sake of reporting this event. I am no catholic, I time and time again am annoyed to no end over the Catholicore bros, and I detest the whole undeserved praise the new pope gets, just by being elected by the cardinals. This new man is, like Francis, one leftie, that is into the whole Climate Change crap. As such, I am not really thrilled to see many people, otherwise more aligned to my ideas, in such cognitive dissonance moment. I mean... what is the freaking point of rejecting communism if you will be lenient to Distributism, which is a variant of socialism, but for trad catholics? They are only marginally less annoying than the revolutionary crowd. And anyway, many of them are woke, but of the other kind. The scholar James Lindsay, whom I follow with enthusiasm, popularized the term Woke Right to describe them. That is the post-modern traditionalists, that are not traditionalists on the original sense, but performative ones, and as such, cynical and insufferable. They do not condemn identity politics or all the critical crap stuff, they just lament they are not in the control of it. One can be quite naive to look at the statistics and think us, of the, dare I say, LEGITIMATE right, either conservativr, either classical liberal, is on the rise. Alas, if only the names preferred would be the ones such as my beloved Lady Thatcher, or have the ideas of a Ronald Reagan, that beacon of moral principle. Even Trump, which is not entirely part of the group, but has been a good representative for us, is not really cut for them. The right on the rise, ever so trending, is not one I feel comfortable with, not in the slightest. They are brute, hostile towards free market and free trade, and some are even, sympathetic to trade unionism. James talks a lot about them, that are moving to hijack Twitter, which still is a place I appreciate, given I curate the hell out of my social media feed. Margaret did predict such group would be troublesome. This really leave us, legitimate people, in a painful position, because the left is also an enemy, very much so. These two groups are hostile to us, and as such, it is quite an agonizing moment, really. I specially had this in mind due to the great interview James did with Jordan Peterson, in his podcast. What a high quality conversation, I did feel Jordan and James built each other up, but not in a pandering way, but one that rises for sharing the same frame, the correct one, if I say so myself. That is not the only thing in my mind. I could mention my uneasiness over some cultural trends. I follow some rightists that also like games and also have distaste for what I do detest, but when some say games are for escapism, I don't entirely feel comfortable in this definition, either. Of course, I hate activism, and the awful usage of media for advancing the message of the devil, during the height of the woke epoch, so to speak. But there is a quote, Art for Art sake is an empty phrase. Art for the sake of truth, art for the sake of the good and the beautiful. Same, for me, goes for videogames. And anything. Neither politics, neither empty turn off for the mind. No. I choose an entire different path: the one for fulfilling momentum. One for enrichment of the nind, one for good music, for good mechanics. That whole thing that when put together, creates a motion that is to make our soul feel like life is worth living! That is no mindless escapism. That is what I yearn for: connection, fulfillment, joy, meaning. One can never have it on politics, but also cannot have it on pure hedonism. Ah, that is one other thing in my mind... I should mention it.
What else? Is it a good point to wrap it up for today? And I should emphasize: FOR TODAY, meaning I will be back here soon enough with more thoughts, ideas, and my routine, and just anything Trianon. God knows someone ought to have a space for their own thoughts, it is healthy, and good to share it with others as well. Again: connection and fulfillment. The empty page haunts me, but when the first paragraph is in place, in many moments it is hard to end the writing. Such with Anno 1890 for example. Well, anyway, I am very happy with what I said here, and I am honored to count on your presence here, I never take it for granted. Thank you!
I, of course, will be back here real soon, hopefully by next week. I wish you the best, and a beautiful weekend! See you again real soon! Farewell.
