Hello hello everyone! I'm really happy to have you here because today I'm going to talk about one of my favorite movies that I watched in the last 3 years! I was going to play "Where's Wally" (I'd say "guess what" BUT I just wanted to say Where's Wally because I just love the sentence and I think it makes sense in this context! Well if it doesn't blame it on my crazy brain) on what movie is it BUT I gave the title already, so here we go! JULIE & JULIA!!!
A movie that goes way back the ancient year of 2009, you know, when the dinossaurs used to run wild and free throughout the plainfields and the Archelons terrified the sea (nope, just kidding, I'm a child from 1998, so for me 9 years ago will be always be 2001 and not 2009), and it also have AN AMAZING CAST with MERYL STREEP and AMY ADAMS, TWO EXTRAORDINARY ACTRESSES, AND SO MANY MORE FANTASTIC AND TALENTED PEOPLE! Only that would make this motion picture a safe bet when you're bored on a Friday night with nothing to do but hopelessly search for unwatched movies on Netflix, but it gets better, trust me on this one! It also have an amazing plot based on true facts! Let me tell you just a little about it....
The movie take place in 2002. Julie Powell (Amy Adams), who is a frustrated writer and has a boring job at the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation's call center, in which she assists victims of the 9/11 attack amongst other stuff, and her "saint" husband Eric Powell (Chris Messina) move to their new home: an appartment above a pizzeria in Queens. Julie, who hates this place, and who hates her job, and basically is sad with the course of her life, discounts her frustrations in her favorite hobby: cooking! One day, "inspired" by the success of her friend's blog, she decides, with the support of her husband, to start her own blog, and not only that, armed with her "Mastering the Art of French Cooking" book, published back in the 1960's by her idol, the famous Julia Child (Meryl Streep), she decides to challenge herself into make all the recipies of this book in just a year, a challenge that she'll narrate in her blog, and so it begins!
The movie actually has two stories, the one of Julie, that I just mentioned, and the one of Julia Child and her husband Paul Child (Stanley Tucci), in which we're transported to the 1940's-1960's so we can see the adventures of Julia in Paris, having classes at Le Cordon Bleu, writing her book, and so on! It's truly amazing and full of surprises - good ones and bad ones. Inspite of the fact there're two plots, they both really go along quite well and in fact you're caught by the both stories without being confused by it! I think it's best I leave the synopsis here because if I keep talking I'll probably just tell everyone the whole movie and I don't think that would be a nice thing to do!
Now I just love this movie, for me it feels like "everyday's life", but with a lot of optimism, even though it never sugarcoats it, as you'll find out when you see it, if you want to. It's also a journey that shows regular people having amazing calm (okay, not so calm) adventures and becoming great and succesfull in a way that feels really inspiring! The story, like I told you, really catches you (and the movie is quite long, so it have to catch you) and for me it really shows the impact that other people have in your life, meeting them in person or not, the relationship a fan has with an idol, that so many people tend to underrate, in this case you can see very clearly the impact of Julia in the life of Julie, in such a powerful way everyone can clearly see it! Also, the soundtrack by Alexandre Desplat is AMAZING!!!!! And the songs out of the soundtrack are amazing too, everything is so fantastic about this movie! And, it's also based on a true story, so this makes everything more extraordinary!
And I guess that's it for today! What a long post! If you're still here, like I say, you're the best!!! You should definitely look for this movie, promise there's a chance you'll love it! See you next time, always a pleasure to be here!
