In Which we have the Musical Month of July 2025
Hello, my good friend and reader of this post! Good morning! So happy you came to spend some minutes in this place of personal thoughts and ideas and making sense of a world that can bombard you nonstop with so many things. It seems like this year has been lasting for a decade. The past week have seen some concerning moves in the world, as an example we have the former relatively free nation of the United Kingdom decidedly turning against whatever was left of free speech and dissent. It is disheartening, they could as well rename themselves to Oceania, and I wonder who'd be the big brother... since the current prime minister is fleeting, I would say none other than King Charles III could be it. I suppose it is the weakness with monarchies at the end of the day, when they grow too personality driven, you are as good as the head of state, being him a cerimonial figure or one with actual administrative powers. How I miss the late queen, her majesty had a special place with me, and I think with many other people as well. I do not envy kids of today, that have to grow without her, and with a void of reference, given Charles is so much less than she ever was. Brazil is no better, of course, in fact the country is in an awful shape on the high echelons of power. The dreaded left-wing physiological oligarchy and its agents on the trade unions and hijacked institutions are on a self destructive mode, decided they prefer to bring the whole country down, if this means stickinf to Mr. Trump. As for me, I can only say I wish America could do more to save us from our captors. Some say they are overstepping, I say not enough... you know you are decidedly not in a situation of normalcy no more when you get weary of writing about the current situation, and how you hate they that are so communist and demonic. But I cannot help it. I should do it while possible, it is what it is.
Even with the very bad developments, I must live my own life and try my best to keep normalcy... so, let's do it. Overall, I think July has been quite a musical month! Quite varied at that as well. It is a relief, always is, when after thinking I listened to everything there was to listen, I find more music I haven't listened to before, some of which, at times, become part of my daily routine, and some become favorites, even comfort music. It happened to many songs by the band Madness, that I found out thanks to Instagram, a place that for all its shortcomings, is quite effective in getting to know new music. I was of course at first very weary and aprehensive of listening to them, I tend to see with suspicion pop music, and specially pop music after the 1960's. I am aware that in the 1980's, Britain was living the Thatcher revolution years, I have mentioned before that I am a huge huge fan of Lady Thatcher, and her ideas are so close to my own, they are essentially my canon. Specially because I grew up in an environment very hostile to my views, when I had to fight, intellectually, tooth and nail for my own sanity, I am extremely sensitive, even intolerant, to criticism to dear Lady Thatcher. As such, I avoided the alternative pop scene in England during the 1980's to listen to, many are on the left and are hostile to Thatcher, and by association, to me. But, after the aprehension, after I did notice Madness has some actually amazing songs, I warmed to them and now I listen to their works on a daily basis. It is only one example of unexpected discoveries that became part of my life.
But overall, the main genre I have been listening to is Opera, the beautiful and appropriate entertainment that is timeless, even if it seems not so, given were the past generations whom flocked to the theater, to see and to be seen, in beautiful attires and a carefree spirit. It was a social gathering experience, while today feels like an individual activity, as I listen to the beautiful music and amazing vocals with my headphones. Would love to see one at live, unlikely in my city given here is a cultural dead zone alas. I listened to many works, Ariadne auf Naxos, which is quite a creative one, and I finished listening to Madame Butterfly and I Puritani, being the latter one of my favorites. I do prefer the Baroque aesthetic, but I find myself listening more to the works of 19th century, that are of one variation of romanticism. It is quite a vast frame! And life outside of it is just not the same. For the better or worse of July, I am at least very proud of myself for listening to so many new works of music, and with joy! It is reason to celebrate... one wonders if August will see the same drive towards musical works... I know it will be my birthday, so in any case, I don't mind.
The month approaches to an end, I won't mention August yet, I want to have a post more dedicated to wrapping up current month, and then jumping towards the other, the one of my birthday. For now, I did write quite a bit, I think it is in good size, so I should, for now, stop to catch a breath. No worries, I should be back here really soon with more thoughts, ideas, routine... hopefully before the end of July! So, I see you again real soon, farewell!
