In Which we have the nostalgia for the wrong year, and hope for Venezuela finally

Good morning, sir, happy Saturday, madame, jolly readers of this present post! All of you a dear friend in potential! How are you? As for me, I am tired but okay. A bit battered, true, I eat and feel no relieve of hungry feeling, maybe I need something more substancial, and we do have food here today, thankfully! It is the beginning of the month, and as such, mom did the groceries, I did some purchases of light snacks for myself. I am aware that some moments due to logistical issues, or sometimes lack of funds, we are out of our refreshments, but today is not one of those. So, my current lack of nourishment is just myself not wanting to cook, not right now. Even if this affects my mood, there is much to celebrate actually. On the third day of the year, Venezuela has finally reason to rejoice. The misdeeds of the demon dictador Maduro finally came to haunt him, as Trump, taking back the heeds of foreign affairs from the inaction of Biden, has arrested such bad and communist and evil (to...

In Which I Finish the Biography of Lady Thatcher

So, this is it, I’ve done it! Since January, through March and finishing this day June 14th, I completed my most ambitious intellectual endeavor! Around three thousand pages where I got to enjoy the very distinguished company of Lady Thatcher! I… I am out of words, what a masterpiece, and the third book was my favorite, though the saddest one. We saw her winning for the third time an election, 1987, we saw her visiting Poland and other soon to be free countries, we saw her struggling over ERM, which Britain was to join after she left office, and that proved to be such a magnifying disaster, that they left it soon afterwards. She told them that thing was a trap, and they ousted her out of office as a “thank you”. We saw her demise, November 1990, and what an apocalyptic event it was for the whole United Kingdom, that is still to recover from it. Definitely caused huge harm to her own party. To be fair, her legacy still endured, even with the many bumps, even her adversaries capitalized on it, as Tony Blair and Gordon Brown saw NewLabour as a successor to Thatcherism, more to the left. Thatcher was ahead of the curve, she told them so over ERM, over the EU, and many other issues. She still shined after she left office, but it was not to last forever. Her health soon would take a turn for the worse, as well as the health of her beloved Husband, Denis. As well as the health of her great friend, the grand president Reagan, that was unfortunately at the end defeated by Alzheimer’s disease. The early 2000’s did see the death of many iconic figures, which is a gruesome reality that time can be implacable. It took from queen Elizabeth her dear mother and her beloved sister. And from Margaret, took many of her friends, and her husband, leaving her alone to bits. It is awful to see it happening. The strokes, her losing her capacity to speak, her hearing and even her memories. But, even by the awful events of 9/11, she was already declining in her faculties, and she could not completely have given her invaluable take on such awful sequence of events. The lights were fading, and they went out, in the beginning of 2013.

I remember, as it was today. I just have watched her movie, the controversial and disrespectful movie The Iron Lady. That movie did introduced me to her, and as just as I was meeting her, she left our realm to the other one. I hope, today, my grandpa met her in heavens, and they are having conversations about economics and religion, as she liked, as he liked. She was my champion, an outcast fighting for his gut ideals of free markets and freedom of choice, in an environment dominated by trade unions and socialism, and tribalism. She was my hero, as she stood against 49 and so many others for what she believed was the right take, and with conviction. She was not perfect, but neither she needs to be. She is better as a human than as a flawless being. She will be immensely missed by me, that now finished her biography. 3000 pages, an incommensurable experience that I read about, that I learnt with. What means to be a conservative, and also be an outcast, a radical, a Daniel! And to thrive in that position, and to become a legend in that condition, and for the right reasons, the reason of market freedom, liberty backed by good morals and a reliable set of laws. That is more than righteous brazilians can dare to dream of, in our God forsaken cursed land. Cursed by socialism, cursed by the ghost of the coup that sought the end of our Legitimate Empire. Cursed by all sort of tribalism. She opens a window to another possibility. So she was, so she will remember. So her legacy will endure, forever, if only we listen to her philosophy, to her dignified approach.
