In Which I talk about city streets and how details matter

Good morning, dear friend, reader of this present post!! How are you? How have you been, in this mid-week? Hope you are well, I do wish you the best! I was desiring to write something on the blog sooner, but I either lacked the motivation, or lacked idea on what exactly to write, or both, and unfortunately, usually both. My mind has been on a burning out alert for some weeks now, and every move I make I dread causing me to snap, I would fall on the floor and weep until I could no more. The summer heat does not help, even if this summer in the grand scheme of things is not really that abrasive. Statistics are useful, but daily life can amplify one's situation. It is summer, and it sucks, no matter if the weather is slightly less hot than some years ago... I will talk more about heat as follows, because thanks to a book I am reading, I have even more reasons to do so! Let us jump to it shall we? Now, of course I may change my mind, because that is how a chaotic mind with OCD goes, wh...

In Which we discuss Civ 7 once again! The decline of a Franchise?

Hello, my great friend!! Good morning, how are you, this Wednesday, when the sky is bright as bright can be? I personally prefer more rainy days, not because I have anything against the blue and the clouds, it is just I like a bit more of comfortable weather... in any case, how are you? I am a bit exhausted mentally these days, but it is not all in a bad way. Civilization VII, as I mentioned on my other post, got released, and now it is official: what a disaster. The reviews keep pouring in, and more than half of them are brutal. I have mixed feelings on this situation. I am not used to predict things so right - I said for a while the game was not going to be a good one - and I also have no joy in seeing such a franchise that once was great, now potentially seeing its absolute demise... but at the same time, of all the bad decisions, all of them were taken, from day 1 of the release circuit of this game... so, as much as it brings me little to no joy, consequences will made themselves present, reality demands to be aknowledged. I also can't feel bad for the game, given how absolutely expensive it is, and how poorly it treats me and other fans. You all know I am a free marketeer, a radical for lasseiz faire capitalism, so, I don't like when companies go on this direction, I don't like when many misunderstand, to say the least, the free market, as to in many moments advance malicious goals. But at the same time, it is part of the free market for companies to fail, for them to reap what they sow. Short sighted cash grabby moves is what many associate with capitalism, and that could not be a more egregious mistake. Only in a mixed economy, to say the least, where 70% is government intervention, and maybe 30% still allows for some private decisions, can bad companies expect to survive after not one, not two, but hundreds of bad decisions. Mind you, 30% of free enterprise still allows for some societal life, a bit of free market is still better than none, but even with that being said, this 30% number is not the definitive one, for the state grows, the cloud of grasshoppers are hungry, and they bring with them times of much hardship and suffering. My country, Brazil, is a perfect example of such situation, where the bit of free market has shrunk to such an extent there is very little of civil society left. Fortunately, in the gaming sphere, there is still a better percentage of freedom of choice and of spending, and as such, when the credibility of a franchise reaches ocean floor, such as The Sins with Sims 4, they cannot expect to survive for long. Make no mistake, Sims is a zombie franchise right now, badly disguised as a thriving one. It is but one of so many, could Civ be the next?

Anyway... still, I would love to try this game, Civ 7, but I am not even close to be able to afford it. Even entry price, at 350 BRL, in a country where the monthly minimum wage is around 1200 BRL, makes purchasing such product ruinous. I cannot afford it, and I don't feel comfortable this time asking for money for such product, it is far away from a reasonable ask. It is expensive for absolutely everyone, father, mother, and friend. Usually I don't like game pass, but at this occasion, actually it could be helpful if Civ 7 would be available in it already. No, there is no sign of Civ 7 in game pass. And venturing on the sea waves is also of little effect, Civ 7 shipped with one of the most punishing and harsh DRM measures I've seen in the past 4 years...

With Civ, is it all doom and gloom? Expensive product with subpar delivery? Do they only have their name to play? Sort of, but I will add, Civ 7 has an enjoyable soundtrack. I personally cannot stop listening and appreciating the theme song for Mexico, for example. It reminds me also of my dear grandpa, mich missed, as he loved mexican music and culture. The graphics (apart from the leaders, that still look do not get to the level of Civ 5) are, for me, sort of an improvement over the dreadful Civ 6 cartoon style... anyway, on Civ, this is what I had to say, for now. Will finally playing the game ease my opinions, or harshen them? We can only wait and see...

As we reach the final third of the post, how are you going to spend the rest of your week? Any fun plans? Just work and study? In any case, I am so grateful you are here, giving a bit of your most valuable time to read my thoughts. Never do I take this for granted, I thank you, and I wish you the best. When will I be back with more of the thoughts, ideas, rants, joys and sorrows? I hope at some point before next week... but even if only next week, it is fine, one step at a time. Now I bid you farewell, see you again real soon, though, so no worries!
