Hello everyone!! Happy Saturday to you!! Yay, the weekend is here, I do love weekends, specially Saturday, one of my favorite days! How cliché, right? But I do... I don't love Sundays, how cliché again, but Anyway, it's beeing a really hot day, but extremely windy was well... I can't help but wonder, is Mary Poppins on her way to somewhere? Maybe, that would explain a lot!
And how are you today, dear reader? How are things going?? As usual, I do wish you the best, and hope everything is indeed going well to you, on this lovely Saturday! Today, I have something really special to share with you all!! A show I watched this month and that I fell in love with! OVER THE GARDEN WALL!!!!
Have to say first, I'm loving my new schedule, that I start applying this month! It's helping me a lot with my creative block, and taking things the long way is allowing me to accumulate my ideas better and make posts that pleases me more, and hopefully you too, dear reader. And it's also helping me with my writing! I may even think about improving it by the end of this month so I can have an even better November, at least with the blog and all that, but anyway, moving on to this extraordinary show.
I can't remember when was the first time I heard of this show, but for some weird reason, I started to think about it at some point in the end of September, and decided to watch it this month. After that, I looked for the show on Google, watched the short movie that preludes the show, and found a link to see the actual show, and wow.
Some things come to your life out of nowhere and they have a huge impact on it. This show was one of those things. I LOVED IT SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!
Over the Garden Wall is the story of two brothers, Wirt and Gregory, and also Greg's frog, that has no name. Wirt is a pessimistic dramatic romantic, who has a soul of an artist. Greg, his younger brother, is a optimistic upbeat person, who sings, dances and likes to play all the time. While Wirt plays an instrument, the clarinet, and his poetry is complicated and overcharged with feelings for his loved one, Greg has a nice voice for a child, and most of his artistic actions are made spontaneously and out of nowhere, and his rhymes are way more spontaneous too. They're in many ways opposites, though they love each other. They found themselves lost in a very deep forest, on a place they have no clue about. They don't know where they got there, and they don't know how to get out of it so they can return home. They're on a place called "The Unknown", and so the adventure goes.
This is also the story of a Bluebird called Beatrice, that find the brothers on this place. She has some secrets though, and so the story goes.
This show is absolutely remarkable! The art style of it is just amazing, it makes me think of Rococo a little bit, and also I can see Art Noveau and romantic art and also Arts & Crafts, and so much more, it's an absolutely eyecandy show! It feels like the end of the 19th century on the show, though its time period is not said, and indeed it feels timeless too, in a way that it doesn't contradicts itself, but on the contrary, it compliments the whole work. The show is also filled with references and homages to old cartoons, which makes it even more interesting and lovely to see.
It's also incredible to think about the fact that it took more than 10 years from its idealization to its final release by Cartoon Network. This show is indeed a fantastic piece of art that, thank God it exists. Idealized by Patrick Mchale, it's a show that I think can add value to the life of anyone, it's deep, it's mature, it's funny, it's for everyone indeed! It has art, it has lovely moments, and it's incredibly sentimental and profound, and the Unknown is a fascinating place, just like the Wonderland of Alice or the Land of Oz of Dorothy, but even more filled with threats and danger. I could go over and over talking about the show, but this post is getting quite big! I definitely will have more posts about it soon, because this show deserves a lot of posts! THE SOUNDTRACK OF IT IS BEAUTIFUL TOO, but I'll have another post talking about it, so let's leave it for another time.
And this is it for today, my dear reader! Wow, this one was quite long indeed, if you're still here, thank you so much! You're the best and you are completely aware of it! Hope you may check this magnificent show, if you want to, and hope I may have wrote a satisfying synopsis and small critique on it! See you guys next time!
