In which we talk about the Russian Revival Architecture
Hello and good morning everyone! How are you today and how are things going? As usual, I wish you all the best and hope things are fine, how is the weather where you are? If you live in America or some other place in the north, like England, Canada, and so on, odds are fall season is here, which is indeed lovely! I absolutely love the colors of Fall, even if I see those from afar, even because now I'm entering in Spring, which is just an amene version of summer in my case, which sucks, as I hate summer, because their weather is just too awful. But we shall pray that this one is gonna be amene, and God shall answer our prayers, hopefully.
So, I just finished rewatching for the third time the excellent docudrama on the Romanov Dynasty, you guys know I love the Romanovs (the link for it is here!), like they are one of the things that define me, and doing so, I was reminded of my love for russian architecture even, and watching about the reign of the great Emperor Alexander III, in which the "Ă€ la Russe" was en vogue in the Russian empire, not only fashion and art were recovering the traditional Russia (not that the Baroque-rococo-neoclassical of the Emperors from Peter to Alexander I bother me, far from it, but I do like a lot of things), but the architecture was being shaped by it too, this was a time where massive buildings, bringing back the spirit of not only Earlier times of the Russian Empire, but also going as back as Byzantium, where the Russian Empire many times drove inspiration from (being Moscow once known as The Third Rome), here's an example of what I'm talking about, the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, in the city of Borki, Ukraine.
I don't know if this beautiful Monument still stands, because this architecture style, as the whole Russian Empire, was doomed to have a tragic and violent end. Many of the exemplars of the Russian Revival period were defaced or even destroyed by the communists of later era. Today not all the structures lost were recovered, far from it. Russia indeed suffered greatly through the 20th century, not only in the hands of the communists, but also in the hand of the Germans, that invaded the country in a time where Germany was dominated by Adolf Hitler and the National Socialists. They too inflicted ireedeemable damage to the old imperial structures that were somehow still standing at that moment. Like the artist that lost his life during the siege of St. Petersburg, this story does not have a happy Ending.
What does have a happy ending, however, is my adventure, that I'll share it with you guys in the next post of the blog, where I'm gonna share with you guys the new icon of the blog, the new mascot of my stream, and so on! See you then! I hope I don't forget to write about it lol, love you guys! Hope next time is asap!
