In Which Life is not SimCity: Washington Square and the Austrian Connection

Good morning, dear friend! Here I return with some more thoughts and ideas about urban planning and so on. I tend to avoid writing so much all at once, but it cannot be helped as I had this idea in mind, I would love to share! Of course, I want first to ask how are you, how are things? As for me, I am a bit fatigued, but not too bad. I pray and hope today can be productive, I want to make some effort and go deliver some documents at the school and hopefully I may find if I can have an internship or not. The weather is miserable, summer ends with a strong and unbearable moist heat, the worst kind. Hope you are havinf a better temperature time today. With that being said, would love to explore this thought I had, as follows: I think I could have mentioned before, I am reading this excellent book by the writer Jane Jacobs, Death and Life of Great American Cities, and it got me thinking that simulation games have really little to do with real life, have they? I say this as a person that lo...

In which we talk about Anno's Last big DLC: The Passage

Good morning and welcome to a new post on the divagation store, dear reader! Doors are always open! How are you today? Wish you the best! Well, I couldn't post yesterday, I'm sorry guys, wasn't feeling it, spent most of my day in bed, like I was waiting for today, the release of the new DLC for Anno, Land of Lions, where we explore Africa, its savannas and highlands, in a region loosely inspired in Ethiopia. We shall bring agriculture to those drylands, irrigating the soil and building a new city for the emperor of this region. Pretty awesome, or at least it's promising! But anyway, there was another big DLC released for Anno, almost a year ago, let's put our fur heavy coats, our exploration glasses, and see what was this all about:

By the way, the art of this game is insane, my jaw is always dropped, how did they do it?!

The last big DLC of Anno brought us to the lands of the Artic. You were to help Lady Jane Faithful in the search for her husband, lost in the frigid lands of the Passage. It's said that, through the artic sea, there would be a faster way into the Orient, which also inspires the adventurers that dare to face those unforgiving lands. Unlike Cape Trelawney and Sunken Treasures, the Story is extremely important here, and this region is no Crown Falls. Indeed harsh, this expansion, though indeed big, was not great unfortunately, like, too much effort for too little. You need too much resources to keep an expensive encampment of explorers there, resources such as Coal, in order to keep their tents warm in this freezing last frontier. What do you get for all the things you gotta mantain? Well, besides more reserves of gold and hunting lodges for fur, the main theme of this DLC is Hot Air Balloons, the Zeppelin kind. And to build that, you'll need gas. Gas, also a much more efficient way to bring electricity to your cities in the old world and power your factories, overall bringing a whole new level of enrichment towards your company, in many ways. But, in order to extract gas for the Balloons and the power plants, you gotta build settlements in desolated plateaus that don't produce nothing, everything gotta be imported, and the only way to transport what you need to it is through the balloons, so yea, you can't use all your new flying machines for everything, gotta keep at least a few supplying your gas production villages, and with the way they are expensive to mantain, they require a whole new level of planning and transporting resources, which, like I said before, is too much for too little. I mean, you can build hot air balloons and stuff, which are op, but they're crazy expensive, and you can provide gas towards your cities, also crazy expensive! The islands you got there are small and cluttered, you will face many challenges, to say the least. If you think it's worth it, and I think it's not, go ahead and give it a try, as it's for sale now on Uplay, being even 50% off if I'm not mistaken. Anyway, this small review is what I have to offer for you today. This region is unecessary and it's easily forgotten, as you build huge cities on Cape Trelawney and manage your resources on the new world. Hope you like my words, and thank you for being here yet once more! Again, sorry for not writing yesterday, and I see you all real soon! Much love!
