In Which Life is not SimCity: Washington Square and the Austrian Connection

Good morning, dear friend! Here I return with some more thoughts and ideas about urban planning and so on. I tend to avoid writing so much all at once, but it cannot be helped as I had this idea in mind, I would love to share! Of course, I want first to ask how are you, how are things? As for me, I am a bit fatigued, but not too bad. I pray and hope today can be productive, I want to make some effort and go deliver some documents at the school and hopefully I may find if I can have an internship or not. The weather is miserable, summer ends with a strong and unbearable moist heat, the worst kind. Hope you are havinf a better temperature time today. With that being said, would love to explore this thought I had, as follows: I think I could have mentioned before, I am reading this excellent book by the writer Jane Jacobs, Death and Life of Great American Cities, and it got me thinking that simulation games have really little to do with real life, have they? I say this as a person that lo...

In Which we say Hello to the Lovely month of December!

Hello everyone! Happy Wednesday and happy month of December, the whole month dedicated to Christmas! How are you, my friend? How are things with you today? As for me, I haven't had classes yesterday, which is a lovely way to spend the last day of November 2021. It wasn't devoid of productivity, though, as I'm looking for more RAM capacity for my laptop, that desperately needs it. With more RAM, I can properly try AOEIV again! Which could be a good idea! Even if I don't, I like to have the chance to do so! Of course I'd have to free some space on my storage, but we should sort this after I get the RAM, which I'll hopefully do. Anyway, how is the weather? Here, it is windy and hot, as it is another month of Summer. Believe me, I'd love to have a winter wonderland for Christmas, but alas, I live in the heart of the tropics. My grandma is traveling to a place that is cold all year, and it is here in Brazil, even! In the south, in higher altitudes, you'll find places like these, places that attracted many german immigrants back in the 19th century, and its impact on Brazil, of course, it is still strong today! 20 million or so descendant of germans live in the southern Brazil, but even in the hot arid plains of the north you can find people with light eyes and yellow hair, even if this place is nothing like their homeland, in Europe! One of those were the parents of my grandma on the mother side, reason why me and mom have a light skin and yellow hair, I found this to be quite interesting, because like I said, most people, europeans, asians, and so on, including those whom I was mentioning, migrated to the south, where still is the most developed place in Brazil, and as was the most developed since the 18th century. Northeastern Brazil is not famous for being a place of much prosperity, quite the opposite, being a very poor and violent region overall. Reasons for which are the lack of economic freedom on the production of commodities such as sugar and cottom, and this basically sums it up, because with no freedom in this important sector, the rest couldn't develop properly. The socialist-paternalistic mindset of most of the population here, many of those poor precisely because of it, don't help either, creating an unfortunate cycle of poverty in many aspects. The south does not escape from such poverty, very important to say, or aren't you familiar with the slums of Rio de Janeiro and SĂŁo Paulo? Brazil overall is a poor country, in the sense that the middle class, most of its population, have a hard time financially wise in many aspects. I do apologize for starting to talk about economics and geography and history, those areas of interest are very much something I enjoy!

In my ideal world, I'd live in a winter wonderland, that's all I meant, and that grandma is traveling to a christmas city here in Brazil with my counsin and aunt, which is quite nice, and I am a bit jealous of them for going there without me! But well, I have stuff of my own to do, such as getting more RAM for the laptop, and so on... Hopefully it will be a lovely December in most fronts! And of course, I wish you the best, dear reader! Happy Christmas once again I will say! And hopefully in this month I'll have many nice things to write about here. See you real real soon!
