Good morning! Happy Friday, and I wish you the best! Today I'd like to chat a bit about Victoria 3, the new Paradox game that I'm addicted to! I completely lost track of it during this post, because I took a break to return to bed, a bad mistake. My chair's fault (not the one that I got at home, the one I have here at my grandma's). Well... Let's jump to it, then!
First of all, I think many are being inrealistic and mean on their reviews of Vic3. My first impression was very positive at 8.5/10, I was gonna give it a solid 9, but the game does need more - more flavor, more expansion, more polishing - it needs and deserves it. Not a project to be swiped away such as Imperator, but one for years to come. This could be the renewal of the Victoria franchise, a very worthy one, so I am a bit concerned about the tepid reception from some of the players. Well, now that we have that sorted. I would like to offer some insight into Victoria 3.
I first played as a nation that is not the most receptive to "beginners", which is the mighty Russian Empire. My first entry into the game sorta partially understanding things - as much as you can on a paradox game - was fairly successful, but then, the game crashed, and I lost all my process, because I decided to play on Ironman. FIRST INSIGHT: DO NOT PLAY ON IRONMAN - at least not in the moment. Because, if you do, when your game crashes, you won't have any backup save to return to. Fortunately, the achievements in Vic3 are not exclusive to IronMan mode, so no worries. I advise against cheating and switching nations, though, because I believe that kinda ruins the point of the game. But anyway, I'm just a crazy guy with a blog.
Second insight can be contradictory. It is as follows: At the same time you shouldn't be afraid of spending on infrastructure at the beginning of the game, there is such a thing as expanding too fast. The game is more forgiving, money wise, than EU4, but the interest rate can break you still, if you don't have that on check. Make sure to spend, because in order to have profit you need to invest, too, but don't go overboard, if that makes sense. Russia, the nation I begin as, starts with a healthy treasure, a net positive, but has little to no infrastructure, you have a lot of work to do, building tool workshops, expanding the construction sector, all of this bleeds money, but you can afford it.
Third insight: As much as it is tempting at the beginning to meddle with the government, I strongly advise to take your time with reforms and so on, the game has a threshold of 100 years, not 10, so you don't have to do everything asap. I, for the beginning, strongly recommend against speedrunning, even in some aspects you could do it, like on EU4, I would say don't do it.
I believe this is the most important thing to talk about now! I could chat some more about other aspects of the game, but so far, this is all for now! Thank you for being here, I appreciate you a lot! I would say I could write more but then I returned to my bed, and got out of the mood to create. Because I am at my grandma's, the chair here ruins my column. I think I shall return home today, as much as we have some amenities here. Well, wish you the best, dear reader of this post, and I see you again real real soon, likely for the wrap up of October.
