Quote of the moment Vol.2

“Any one thinking of the Holy Child as born in December would mean by it exactly what we mean by it; that Christ is not merely a summer sun of the prosperous but a winter fire for the unfortunate.” - G. K. Chesterton, The Streets of the City, The New Jerusalem

Highlighted Quotes That Caught my Attention At The Moment

In Which December flies in the sky with Santa Claus and the Reindeers!

Hello, my friend, reader of this present post, maybe past ones as well, perhaps future ones too. How are you, this new week? Another one for the height of the most beautiful season! How is the christmas going? For me, it is quite tranquil, I don't want to lament much. I do have some bad moments, for example, as I mentioned on the other post, when Sims 3 broke on me, and took me a week to figure out what was causing such issues. I have great news, concerning that! I figured it out: it was OneDrive! I understand better why so many have Windows 11 fatigue, though I resist to share of the sentiment. It did bother me that I was facing the OneDrive overreach issues, but once they were solved, I could resume my Sims 3 shenanigans. Of course, as I mentioned before, I was even committed to take a break from the game. Though such commitment is not necessary, nor justifiable anymore, neither is respectful towards all my hard work on figuring out the issues, an era ended with Sims 3, but anoth...

In Which we have Mods for Civ 5 and the Age of Giants

Good morning, my friend, reader of this post! Happy Tuesday! How are you, this first third of the week? As for me, I am okay, virtually better from the flu, thank Goodness. I had therapy yesterday, and it went very well, though I had to do it online. The reason for this move is the fact I am facing financial hardships once more. You think, after paying your dues, that you will be free from any future spenditure. Ah, not quite. Life moves on, and so does the bills. You have groceries to get, one and other amenity to purchase, and sometimes slicing the prices into smaller sizes in the end bites you in the back. The situation is not as bad as before my birthday, but I am in a scale from greeb to red, on a yellow.

Christmas and cats! What is not to love?

The past few days saw me trying some Civ 5 once more, and with some mods, which I was not too keen about some years ago. I stumble upon quite a big one, the Vox Populi community patch, and I have been getting myself familiar wirh it ever since. Already made some progress in understanding it better, and it has been an interesting change of pace. Besides that, I did open Anno 1800 for a few minutes, but since that game is more focused on your own personal pacing and sandbox experience, I did not advanced much in it, not yet. For the rest of today, I may play the previously cited games, and maybe some more, such as The Sims 3. On solid plans, I think I am well enough today to attend pilates, so I should go there, given I had to miss classes for the past two weeks, due to my flu. I have skipped classes before due to not feeling like attending it, but this time, I could not on more solid grounds than my mood or desire. I hope I can work on a christmas-themed drawing at some point before December, maybe more than one. I have started thinking of visiting grandma again, at some point, given I would love to see the christmas decorations at her place. I am discouraged by the considerable distance between my dwellings and her own, but I should make an effort, and specially once my finances may be more on solid ground to allow locomotion.

Concerning books and reading, I did manage to read a chapter of my book on the Habsburgs! I read about the catastrophic Napoleonic wars. The french Revolution unleashed a whole new level of terror in the continent as a whole, and prompted Archidukes Joseph II and his short-realm brother Leopold to act in a direction towards bigger censorship and repression. The following ruler was Francis II of the Holy Roman Empire, and his realm would see the ascension of the giant that was Klemens von Metternich. Even with the immense humiliations that the house of Austria had to endure with Napoleon, and also the fall of the Holy Roman Empire, that was stretched to its demise by the french, still Austria, with the guidance of Francis and Metternich, endured, and with the concert of Europe and the famous congress of Vienna, in the end the forces of good sense and conservatism endured, for at least some decades. And even after that, this european consensus would ensure peace on the continent for almost a hundred years, and for the next decades of the 19th century, the forces of free market that were allowed to act, the forces of free trade that were allowed to act, and the industrialization, this all formed the basis for an economic and cultural boom that would skyrocket the west as a whole far beyond any other civilization, that lost in their bickerings and their interventionisms, just could not compete. All of that because of the age of Giants.

In any case, I should wrap up this post round here, because I did write a lot, and because I will see if I will indeed go to pilates today. I have a touch of a headache, but I got some painkillers for that. When should I be back on this publication to write some more? Though, as usual, I cannot promise a concrete time, with the approximation of Christmas day, I will see if I can have some themed posts for the beautiful holiday of 2024. Most likely, I should be back around the weekend...? Maybe earlier, but most likely around the weekend or later. In any case, it is a joy to still write here, for me and for you. As always, wish you the best! See you again real soon, farewell!
