In Which Freedom is for Everyone
Good evening, dear friend, dear reader of this post! How are you? I am okay, I'd say. Ah, I had moments of exhaustion, more than I'd like to admit. And for reasons that when I recall, hurt. I am okay, right now, though. Tired still, but at least a bit productive. Relieved it is almost the weekend!! How nice is that? The weather today was lovely, actually. It was one of the coolest days of the year so far, the weather going as low as 20 celsius. I am aware that for some of you rhat is summee under a heatwave, but in my area, the tropical region, that is to the point of freezing. That is good. I also did have some ideas in mind to explore on my writing, some about friendship, others about why society decays today. And so on... As I was thinking, I wrote the following piece... I think it has many of the themes I wanted to talk about, it weaved very well actually! So, as follows, it is already done so why not jump to it already?
You know, I do think freedom is for everyone. There is a view, a certain bias, amongst some more "toughen-up" libertarians that you have to be corageous, daring, a businessman, strong, to take advantage of what is deemed as freedom. That the meek and the quiet prefer the tyranny of the evil state, ever-reaching, suffocating. I think this is not so. There is a lot in fact wrong with such bias. I will say that the view of freedom (free markets, freedom of expression, freedom of assembly) as a "system", one that opposes the other system of socialism, there is where many start their errors of judgement, and from a flawed foundation, even good ideas crumble. There is, of course, the rule of law, which is a legal frame given by a third neutral party, that guarantees rules will be respected or else there will be the correct consequence, when mitigation, also a guarantee by a proper rule of law society, fails. That can be said it is a system, but as for freedom, it is no system, it is the absence of the suffocating, maniacal overreach of socialism, it is the absense of jacobinist enthusiasm, rhat being either left wing or right wing, that end up with cities in flames and thousands of people slaughtered. Freedom, exchange, markets and correct pricing is what happens naturally, when a society of individuals is left relatively alone -from a state perspective- to sort themselves out, and specially when the incentives are good and correct, and their minds have not been hijacked by their worsr impulses. It is not a perfect world, I did not even suggest that, but it is one that is not only preferable, it is the only way to reasonably be. Mises did say that the choice between capitalism and socialism is a false one, it is like choosing between water and sulphuric acid. With that being said, why not, freedom can't be of the meek? Of the calm and quiet, of the introspective? No, freedom is SPECIALLY for them! They are in many ways the first to die when the state starts their purges. They are the ones that need mutual co/operation and the feeling of safety first, and the government robs them of that. Of course, freedom is of the strong, the daring, the enterpreneur, but that is a given, as it is for everyone. There is a quote in that game "Humankind", for all its many flaws, that reasonate so deeply, which is: when individuals start to form their own societies, it is how you can contribute to yourself and yours better, because the burden of fighting the wild bad animals is alleviated. That allows for more options for people that are not that strong in a way or the other to actually help and make their corner of the world shine. "Don't do good against the bears and elephants? You can catch fish by the river instead". That frame is lost in today's "all or nothing" absurd claim of the social media people. That muddles the debate, and that causes many to go on a terrible path. The over zealousy of some christians over the bible's readings, what it says and not says, it is usually what drives other christians away from the faith. Ah, so it goes... I thought that needed to be said, also: everyone likes to eat, no one likes to starve. In a socialist coercitive society, and all socialist societies are, by requirement, overreaching and oppressive, that is the way ir leads to: starvation, suffering, mediocrity, and that at times is turned into creed of allegiance. Freedom is for everyone, it is for you that wants to open a business, and it is for me that wants to offer you my service. One must never lose this of sight.
I think I did a good job in pointing out my frame, even if I am tired at the moment, my mind is slightly foggy, and I want to close my eyes and sleep. As my own region of the world is in an ever more sorry state, being runned by terrible lunatics that I am ashamed, deeply ashamed, as a human and as a brazilian, to share territory with, I thought some grounding may be what it is needed! As always, of course, thank you for reading, for being here, how I appreciate you!! If you are concerned over the end of this post approaching, worry no more, I shall return real soon with more thoughts, ideas... don't distress yourself, if at all... I see you again Real Soon! Cheers! Farewell but just for now!
